Learning Resource Centre
The RUNME SHAW Library
| Our newly renovated CJC Learning Resource Centre is a spacious yet warm and vibrant learning space for our students. It contains a great variety of learning materials with over 27,000 books, 35 subscriptions to prominent periodicals such as Time, Newsweek, The Economist, New Scientist and PC World, and more than 700 CD-ROMs, 140 CDs, 1,600 videos in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Aside from that, our new library also boasts student conference rooms (“talk spaces”), a teacher’s study, two fully equipped alternative learning spaces for teacher-student interaction and expansive display areas. It is hoped that the CJC student will make full use of our wonderful new LRC in the course of the year, reading actively and widely to enhance the knowledge and skills provided by the academic programme and for self-enrichment. Guidance is provided and books in the library are arranged on shelves according to subject areas and the Dewey Decimal Classification system. In the event that any source of information cannot be found, students should approach the librarian and her assistant who would be glad to offer their assistance. |

Library Society
The Library is constantly seeking to recruit students to be part of our Learning Resource Centre fraternity. These student-librarians will be involved in library functions such as circulation, shelving, compiling of booklists, organizing of quizzes, showing of movies, preparing of displays, work experience in NLB, book sharing sessions etc. Occasionally, outings will be organized for external visits to other places such as other JCs’ libraries and National Library Board libraries. Not forgetting that only student librarians will have:
- Extended borrowing privileges
- Advanced information literacy instruction which will better prepare them for tertiary education (to be finalized)
- Receive a CD containing some of our library’s non-print resources
The Library Society extends a warm thank you to all existing student-librarians for their hard work and look forward to new members joining a vibrant, useful and fun society for their CCA.
